Based in our New York City office, the Senior Instant Messaging Software Engineer will be responsible for writing applications that communicate with public instant messaging networks like AIM, Yahoo and Google Talk and acting as our primary resource for architecting related solutions. This role is high-priority and the right person will have a major impact on our success and rapid expansion. YellowJacket is a peer-to-peer, bilateral trading network and platform that directly connects hedge funds, energy companies, broker/dealers and investment banks via its trade platform, YJ ENERGY. Uniquely supporting the volume, volatility and complexity of the over-the-counter (OTC) energy markets like Natural Gas, Crude, Power and Weather, YellowJacket?s communication and market data trading tools capture and present each firm?s own off-exchange market data in real-time, offering private, customized and independent views of the market that can be shared among global trading desks and back-offices. As YellowJacket's Sr. Instant Messaging Software Engineer your primary mission will be to function as our "go to" resource for our integration with AOL and Yahoo, taking ownership of architecting innovative solutions going forward. While prior experience as a developer working in the instant messaging space would be ideal, you can also hit the ground running if you are a talented programmer who knows how to and enjoys figuring things out, proactively looks for and troubleshoots problems, and bulletproofs what is in place before things go wrong. Superior server-side Java/J2EE programming skills (preferably on Linux) will be the key to your success, and whatever knowledge you bring to the table with SonicMQ, XMPP, OpenFire, Jabber, AOL OSCAR, and/or other messaging technologies will jumpstart your career with us. Besides technical competency, you'll fit into our team if you posses a great deal of initiative, creativity, and problem solving ability, and want to take on the challenge of working with a small and accomplished group in an entrepreneurial environment.
