Hi Java Guys,

We have a discussion on promoting site to internet search engines (SEO) going on along a different thread. What we also want is a cracking website structure and design. Since this site is for 'us', we would like your input on what content you would like to see.

Some initial sugggesions would be along traditional lines such as pages for:
Home Page / Welcome page
Contacts
Multiple forum thread pages - everything from classloading in IBM WebSphere to which accountants you recommend.
Upcoming meetings and agendas
Site Map
Registration and Secure contents for (members only). What would this be, I don't know. This also implies there would be content for public domain as well.
and more .....

With kind regards,
Manoj Bhardwaj

Manoj,

One area that has been requested previously by candidates is a page where they could bring coding problems and have them solved online. So this is potentially something that we could include.

I think our coding problem on the site had close to 400 views, where as most subjects receive under 50, so it is clearly something of interest.

Another area that I have received a lot of interest about recently are freelance projects. I have had a lot of candidates approach me for freelance work on top of their current jobs (either weekend or evening).

We could potentially look at having something for this purpose if it would be of interest.

Any other ideas, guys?

I completely agree with and support the idea about freelance projects, there is so much that London can offer and we are so many... I believe that in London there is a huge unexpressed potential and a lot of great idea just get wasted because is not easy to meet the right people.

Other ideas?
Why not to add a box to collect ideas?... As always the best idea come when something is already in progress, so why not to try to give them the right place?

Of interest for me could be the possibility to propose free seminars, people could propose themselves as teachers for a specific audience... beginners-advanced on any topic
for example how many people do really know how to use properly Eclipse?

Organize a video-games night competition?

Organize a competition of the sort... the fastest algorithm that solves this and that? Or the most elegant code that solves this and that. A competition rewarded by the community, can give very interesting material to discuss about

That is it for now
Ciao
Francesco

This all sounds really interesting and things I hadn't previously thought about. Does everyone agree with these, or can anyone build on these topics?
